Wolfmother

She's looking for the summer dream
Came down from the mountain
To find another machine
Running down all the by-ways
Listen to all that she says
Couldn't see very far
Find out all that you are
My California Queen
Fully air-reconditioned, self-made man machine
With a home-made hydroponic, wait to find out what it means
My California Queen
Standing in front of the rainbow
Could you tell me where do all the people go?
Rising from the mystic haze
Standing in front of all creation
WIth all their mystic ways
They seem to control the days
Somebody got to get behind it
To find out all that it means
My California Queen
Oh tell me what it means
My California Queen
Standing in front of the rainbow
Could you tell me where do all the people go?
Rising from the mystic haze
Standing in front of all creation

The PR transmissions will resume,
They'll try to push drugs that keep us all dumbed down,
And hope that we will never see the truth around
(So come on)
Another promise, another scene,
Another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed,
And all the green belts wrapped around our minds,
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on)
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious
(So come on)
Interchanging mind control,
Come let the revolution take it's toll,
If you could flick a switch and open your third eye,
You'd see that
We should never be afraid to die
(So come on)
Rise up and take the power back,
It's time the fat cats had a heart attack,
You know that their time's coming to an end,
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious

Silversun Pickups

And it's bitter and whispers chaotic things
And it reached in quick ain't it worrying
It's so easy to see, everyone can agree, stop listening
I know you've heard it before
But then it wasn't enough
You don't wanna be held back from the substitution
I know you've seen this before
And now enough is too much
You don't wanna be set back when the substitution comes
I'm sorry
You're a marionette in the center of
All the twisting strings coming from above
And we sink too deep to recover from
It's so easy to see, everyone can agree, just let it go
I know you've heard it before
But then it wasn't enough
You don't wanna be held back from the substitution
I know you've seen this before
And now enough is too much
You don't wanna be set back when the substitution comes
I'm sorry
I'm sorry
When the voices start spinning just be aware
I have brought enough stones for us to share
That one's grinning that one's burning aim for the throat
Let him choke on the stones that we are to throw
It's the great downfall
Not the overthrow
If you shoot them down
It'll make you soar
When reactions turn into hurricanes
And the middle comes, seems a little tame
Whether full or empty it's all the same
It's so easy to see, everyone can agree, you're not to blame
I know you've heard it before
But then it wasn't enough
You don't wanna be held back from the substitution
I know you've seen this before
But now enough is too much
You don't wanna be set back when the substitution comes
I'm sorry

Rage Against The Machine

Tha vocal tone has got 'em sweatin' their own apocalypse
Yes, rebel of tha grains stand masterless
Tha masked ones cap one
NAFTA comin' with tha new disaster
And yes we in wit tha wind an tha plan de Ayala kin
Are comin' back around again
Tha slave driver saliva, one night power turns
Them devils mouths dry, now Mexico burns
So here they come one by one them killers of the new frontier
Occupy, causin' fear, come on
Wit the wind below
We in wit the wind below
Wit the wind below
Flip this capital eclipse
Them bury life wit IMF shifts, and poison lips
Yo they talk it, while slicin' our veins yo so mark it
From the FINCAS overseers, to them vultures playin' markets
She ain't got nothin' but weapon and shawl
She is Chol, Tzotzil, Tojolobal, Tzeltal
The tools are her tools, Ejidos and ovaries
She once strangled, now through a barrel she breathes
She is the wind below
The wind below
She is the wind below
And all the shareholders gonna flex, and try ta annex the truth
While the new trust is gonna flex, and cast their image in you
Yeah all the shareholders gonna flex, and try ta annex the truth
And while the new trust tries ta flex, and cast their image in you
And GE is gonna flex and try and annex the truth
And NBC is gonna flex and cast their image in you
And Disney bought the fantasies and piles of eyes
And ABC's new thrill rides of trials and lies
And while the gut eaters strain to pull the mud from their mouths
They force our ears to go deaf to the screams in the south
Yeah!
But we in wit the wind below!
But we in wit the wind below!
But we in wit the wind below!

The Stills

Your head is moving side to side
Our temperatures rise
I hear the Devil outside
You're heading north
Well I'm heading south
Well I hope the words are right when they leave your mouth
Well I'm better off now
Don't, don't talk down to me
Your head is moving side to side
Our temperatures rise
[ The Stills Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
I hear the...
Some things I can't be under
I take one more step
I'm lacing up my gloves
Well I'm better off now
Don't, don't talk down to me
Your head is moving side to side
Our temperatures rise
I hear the Devil outside

There's a little animal, way up in the air
My nose and tongue are roving, but maybe it's not there
There's a little man now, in the middle of the earth
He gives himself these orders and let it all be burned
There are lots of makeshift wonders, seven in the world
Five of them will not be noticed and three will not be heard
There's a meal there's a window, there's a face that you can't see
You can keep what you've stolen, just give it back to me
I vow to taste my vengence, even if they dare (?)

WARSAW
3,5,0,1,2,5, Go!
I was there in the back stage,
When the first light came around.
I grew up like a changeling,
To win the first time around.
I can see all the weakness.
I can pick all the faults.
Well I concede all the faith tests,
Just to stick in your throats.
31G, 31G, 31G
I hung around in your soundtrack,
To mirror all that you've done,
To find the right side of reason,
To kill the three lies for one,
I can see all the cold facts.
I can see through your eyes.
All this talk made no contact.
No matter how hard we tried.
31G, 31G, 31G
I can still hear the footsteps.
I can see only walls.
I slid into your man-traps,
With no hearing at all.
I just see contradiction,
Had to give up the fight,
Just to live in the past tense,
To make believe you were right.

Time To Pretend
I'm feeling rough, I'm feeling raw, I'm in the prime of my life.
Let's make some music, make some money, find some models for wives.
I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin, and fuck with the stars.
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.
This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun.
Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute.
Forget about our mothers and our friends
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
I'll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms
I'll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world
I'll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I'll miss the boredem and the freedom and the time spent alone.
There's really nothing, nothing we can do
Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew.
The models will have children, we'll get a divorce
We'll find some more models, everyting must run it's course.
We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end
We were fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Anarchy in the UK
Right! Now ha ha ha...
I am an antichrist
I am an anarchist
Don't know what I want
But I know how to get it
I wanna destroy the passerby
'Cause I wanna be Anarchy
No dogsbody
Anarchy for the UK
It's coming sometime and maybe
I give a wrong time stop a traffic line
Your future dream is a shopping scheme
'Cause I wanna be Anarchy
In the city
How many ways to get what you want
I use the best
I use the rest
I use the N.M.E
I use Anarchy
'Cause I wanna be Anarchy
It's the only way to be
Is this the M.P.L.A or
Is this the U.D.A or
Is this the I.R.A
I thought it was the UK
Or just another country
Another council tenancy
I wanna be Anarchy
And I wanna be Anarchy
(Oh what a name)
And I wanna be an anarchist
(I get pissed, destroy!)

The Download Festival
Aidee and I just returned home from the Download Festival at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in
We found our seats, 28 and 29 respectively in Section 203, Row N, and enjoyed the last couple of songs performed by She Wants Revenge. She Wants Revenge was the third band to perform. For the life of me, I cannot at this moment recall the names of the first two bands we missed. Oh well. I'm old; by the end of the concert, my dogs were barkin'.

Following their set, She Wants Revenge front man, Justin Warfield, expressed his band's gratitude for the privilege of being a part of the Download Festival.
Next up, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, commonly referred to as, BRMC, commandeered the stage and rocked the house. Aidee remarked, “The singer is handsome”. Hmm… BRMC has two singers; so either Peter Hayes or Robert Levon Been must die.
After BRMC finished their set I left my seat in search of the restroom and returned with a ten dollar "large" Fat Tire. By the time I returned to my seat the Amphitheatre had nearly filled to capacity; as the sun set, a rush of adrenaline brought the audience to their feet cheering as Bay Area natives, AFI, took the stage.
Despite a technical problem at the beginning of their performance (lead singer Davey Havoc was having problems w/the feedback to his headset), AFI put on a phenomenal show. Notwithstanding the fact that any Bay Area band performing in a major Bay Area venue is going to receive love and adoration; Davey Havoc was confident on stage and connected easily with the audience. Between sets he spoke to the audience at one point stating that although it was a chilly night, seeing the audience standing and singing along made the band feel warm and welcome. Towards the end of their performance, Havoc announced that this would be their last concert for awhile as they would be going to the studio to produce a new album.
Following AFI and my ten dollar “large” Fat Tire I went in search of the restroom and more refreshments. It occurred to me that I could save a lot of money by waiting until after the concert for food and beer and walked back over to our seats. I asked Aidee if she was sure that she wanted something to eat and she promptly handed me fifteen dollars for Nachos. So, I was walking towards the food court when all of a sudden a false start from the stage sent the audience into excitement. Suddenly I was walking upstream against a crowd hurrying to return to their seats; a crazed young woman smiling up at me from her wheelchair nearly ran me over… I pressed forward; nachos/beer, nachos/beer, nachos/beer…
Despite fighting the crowd and standing in line, I returned to my seat w/plenty of time for Aidee and I to finish our giant order of seven dollar nachos and make a considerable dent in my 8 dollar Miller Genuine Draft (To think that for only two dollars more, I could have enjoyed a frosty Sierra Nevada Pale Ale).
The Cure took the stage opening appropriately enough with “Open” off their 1992 album, Wish. My oldest CD by The Cure is Seventeen Seconds and it occurred to me that this album came out when I was only ten years old back in 1979. Earlier in the day, Aidee and I had stopped for lunch at the Buttercup where in our excitement we remarked to our waitress that we were on our way to a concert. When she brought us our check she remarked, “Enjoy the concert” and asked, “Who are you going to see?” “The Cure”, I replied and she just stood there with a blank expression. How in the hell could someone not have heard of The Cure? “They’ll be performing with AFI”, I quickly added. Her face brightened up in recognition…
So there we were…a cross generational moment; adults my age, parents with their children, older teenagers, and twenty-something year olds. I poked Aidee with my elbow and nodded towards
I thought back to when I was seventeen and remembered that I had once thought The Cure a namby-pamby flash in the pan sort of band. But here I was 21 years later and The Cure was proving not only did they still have it; they have always had it. In short, The Cure rocks; they blasted the audience w/blazing guitars in CD quality and after all these years, Robert Smith still has his unique voice.
The Cure performed for approximately two and a half hours w/two encores. The first finish followed the appropriately titled song, “End”, again off their 1992 album, Wish. Of course the audience stood their ground, waiting for the encore. I leaned over to Aidee and said, “The concert is not over until they play ‘The Forest’”. I’m not sure how many more songs they played but they hadn’t played “The Forest” when Robert Smith once again said, “Thank you”, and the band laid down their instruments and walked off the stage. Some of the audience was already moving to the exit. Aidee had that excited “beat the crowd” look about her and I leaned over and said again, “The concert is not over until they play ‘The Forest’”. We stood still and a few minutes later The Cure returned to the stage. They played a couple more sets finishing with all time crowd pleaser, “The Forest” off their 1979 album, Seventeen Seconds. The Concert was over. An exhausted and humble Robert Smith spoke to the crowd and promised that he would see us again next year.

Misfit Love
Wanna see my past in flames,
Don't waste a drop baby, I ain't fussed.
Where I was born, no escape,
There, there ain't even no good/bad drugs.
In the city is it true?
If you don't, you act like you do.
Feast of fools. I can't wait,
Give 'em a taste of my misfit love.
Complicate.
Encarcerate.
Feel my heart wake up.
Ain't born to lose baby,
I'm born to win,
I'm so goddamn slick baby, it's a sin,
It's a sin.
Transforming is becoming on me...
Do me first, do your worst.
Gimmie what I want some of.
One track mind, no time to waste.
Sidewalks, feel me strut so good?
Gutter, don't forget this face,
Let 'em taste my misfit love.
I'll show you all my dirty tricks,
Then show 'em again,
I'm so proud of em.
It's cruel to be constantly,
Feel my heart play dumb.
Ain't born to lose baby,
I'm born to win,
I'm so goddamn sick baby, it's a sin,
It's a Sin.
Just a dead man, walking through the dead of night,
And if you are going anywhere tonight? Just a dead end,
Walking through the dead of night and if you are going,
Can I get a ride?
Just a dead man walking through the dead of night,
Its impossible to wait until the light,
Cause, I'm already gone,
If you bet on me, you've won.

Don't try to tell me how some power can corrupt a person
You haven't had enough to know what its like
You're only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I'm right - alright!
Well I used to stand for something

Alana Sweetwater

Alana Sweetwater
Dark Minion's favorite singer in May.
About Alana Sweetwater
Alana Sweetwater is a passionate and captivating songwriter who grew up in the mountains of Tucson, Arizona. Her songs have a strong undercurrent of intimacy and accessibility, which echoes many listeners’ own experiences and feelings. There is no superficiality here; only a raw and honest need to communicate expressed through her words: “I want to make people FEEL. I want them to know that they are not alone.”
As a child, both of Alana’s parents ran private businesses from their home. Her mother owned a salsa company while her father had a holistic dental practice that still thrives today. In addition, the property was a commune with a constant stream of wayward travelers coming and going. This proved to be fertile ground for Alana’s budding creativity. “I made up songs while I was alone in the desert, then I’d come home, get all dressed up and perform them for everyone,” Alana recalls.
At twelve years old, she received her first guitar and found it to be the perfect vehicle to help her write songs. By the time she was 16, she had formed her first band, written over 100 songs and consistently performing at local venues. She recorded her first album entitled, “Hope for the Living,” and started playing all around the country in venues like The House of Blues in Los Angeles, California, The Fox Theater in Boulder, Colorado and The South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. Later, she released her second album, “From Behind the Veil.” Tucson embraced the young songwriter, where she received regular radio airplay. The Tucson Weekly went so far as to write a five-page article about her life and music. Still living in the town she was born in, Alana began to feel complacent and craved change in her life, ultimately choosing to leave Tucson for Los Angeles.
When Alana Arrived in Los Angeles, she had $80 and a place to stay for three days. In little time, she was playing many of the most prestigious clubs. She placed two songs in Jim Wilson Films (“Dances with Wolves” and “Waterworld”) and recorded her third self-titled album with producer Joe Romersa (Jon Prine, Bonnie Raitt). After a year and a half of playing in support of the album, new songs and new ideas were springing forth and along with it, the desire for a different kind of sound. She fell in love with hip-hop and R&B beats, but desired a more acoustic approach. She met musician Marlon Grace, who played the Cajon, and found what would become the heart beat of her new sound. She soon brought in Dylan Cooper to play upright bass and all three began to perform as The Heavy Steppers. Eventually Alana added guitarist Jason Decorse, a long time friend and musical companion since the Tucson days, as well as guitarist Mike Freas, a talented blues and bluegrass player. Both musicians loved the new sound and wanted to contribute their talents. Marlon then introduced his friend Boom to the group, a tap dancer who has performed in Stomp, and Dylan brought in creative jazz trumpeter Phil Rodriguez. The band that has been created is much like a band of traveling gypsies: passionate, wild and entertaining. Accompanied by her band, Alana’s songs have come to life and become a glorious and full sensory experience.
Alana took The Heavy Steppers into the studio in the summer of 2006 where they finished their album (March 2007). The band plays around Los Angeles regularly, filling venues like The Hotel Café, The Derby, and The Mint. This is an exciting time for Alana Sweetwater. She has found her musical family, great success as a songwriter and a collaborative album that is a culmination of her musical experience. The band will begin touring the United States in June 2007.

slow it down
slow it down

like to change me
make me softer
tune your voice like a baby
I'm using caution

I wish you could wait

I'm almost over

slow it down
slow it down

and i'll tell you one more thing
I confess to self deception
pull the lock and pry it open
they're pretending to be stolen
I am my own thief in the night
struck up for mnay years
just to get here
between the humility
and be my own teacher
I guess it backfired
'cause my motive
was just to take and
never kept that way I guess

Action figure marks 12th anniversary of Cobain's suicide
08:38 AM PDT on Monday, April 3, 2006

ABERDEEN, Wash. - Wednesday will be the 12th anniversary of the Seattle suicide of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain, who grew up in Aberdeen.
The National Entertainment Collectibles Association is remembering Nirvana's front man with an action figure.
The plastic likeness of Cobain is dressed in the outfit worn in the music video "Smells Like Teen Spirit." According to the NECA Web site, the figure includes Cobain's guitar, "rendered in painstaking detail, and part of the gymnasium floor as his base."

This is the album I discovered THE CURE w/back in 1989... Pretty much before that, I hated The Cure...
Aidee and I married back in 89 and shortly after we moved into our second apartment in Federal Way Wa., I had the above picture as a poster hanging in my bathroom for about a year.
...
It's sorta like The Cure has come and gone, and come and gone again, and might be coming around again for one last time... but who knows???

Plain Song
"i think it's dark and it looks like rain" you said
"and the wind is blowing like it's the end of the
world" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
a second.
"i think i'm old and i'm in pain" you said
"and it's all running out like it's the end of the
world" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
a second
sometimes you make me feel like i'm living at
the edge of the world like i'm living at the edge
of the world "it's just the way i smile" you said

The Postal Service

The Postal Service
Dark Minion's Favorite Band in February!
...
Named for the way they traded sounds and ideas, the Postal Service is an electronica-meets-indie-rock supergroup featuring Jimmy Tamborello of Dntel and Figurine and Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard; Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis and former Tattle Tale-r and solo artist Jen Wood provide backing vocals. Tamborello and Gibbard first worked together on the title track of Dntel's This is the Dream of Evan and Chan EP; from there, the duo continued to collaborate via mail, with Tamborello sending electronic pieces and Gibbard adding guitars, vocals and lyrics. The results, Give Up, were released in early 2003 by Sub Pop. ~ Heather Phares

"I'm sick and tired of people saying that we put out 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've put out 12 albums that sound exactly the same."

In memory of John Lennon
On Dec. 8, 1980 Mark David Chapman, a crazed fan, ended the life of one of the World's great musician / songwriters John 'Ono' Lennon. As John and Yoko returned home, the gunman approached them and shot Lennon to death. Then he casually laid down his gun, sat on the step and read a book.
Lennon died right here on the sidewalk in front of his New York home as Yoko watched in horror. Ironically, John had just autographed his record 'Double Fantasy' for Chapman just hours before the assassin returned to kill him.
